Seventh-day Adventist world church President Ted N. C. Wilson will maintain a cooperative relationship with China's officially recognized Protestant organization.
"Although the Adventist Church has distinct doctrines, we are certainly open to cooperating with fellow Christians who are lifting up Christ," Wilson said following a meeting with representatives of the China Christian Council at Adventist Church headquarters on July 6.
The China Christian Council/Three-Self Patriotic Movement is the officially recognized religious organization that oversees the activities of Protestant churches in mainland China.
While the Adventist Church established a relationship with the China Christian Council in the mid-1990s, Council representatives for the first time attended a General Conference Session, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia last week.
The visit helped cement the China Christian Council's perception of Adventists as a "mainstream" Protestant denomination, said world church General Vice President Eugene Hsu, a native of China.
"Even though China doesn't recognize denominational structure internally, the fact they allowed a delegation to attend Session shows they are aware of the global scope of the Adventist Church," Hsu said.
Maintaining "cordial relationships" and constructive dialogue with other denominations' leaders facilitates mutual understanding among faith groups, leaders from the church's Public Affairs and Religious Liberty department said at this week's meeting.
The China Christian Council delegation included Xuebin Shen, vice chairperson of the organization's National Committee; Jun Wang, chairperson of its Shaanxi chapter; Zhiming Zhu, vice president of the Wuxi Christian Council; and Meiying Shi, secretary of the Overseas Relations department of the China Christian Council.
The delegation asked how Adventists relate to other denominations, and whether Adventist-run seminaries enroll non-Adventist students. Shen was impressed with the church's commitment to healthy living, adding that he might try a vegetarian diet for a year, Hsu said.
During the meeting, Wilson accepted an invitation to meet with China Christian Council officials in China.
I dont agree with that because that is babylon entering the church

This is a great opportunity for our church to work with this Christian Organization of China. God brought the leadership of this organization to our church. We should love them and try to minister the adventist message to them. It is good that Elder Ted Wilson accepted the invitation to visit them in China. I will praying that God uses this avenue to bring up the adventist message to many people of China. God bless.

The gospel of Christ transcends denominational boundaries...
It is encouraging to see the global spiritual leader of the Adventist church conduct God's business of relating to other Christian believers with a broader and ecumenical perspective, than traditional. (I hope the use of the word 'ecumenical' here does not spark presumptive bias and debate.)
Specific to China, one such inspiration of gospel passion is the the Carter Report ministry... recently launching DVD distribution project in Communist China.
To God be the glory!

As I was viewing the GC session, I noticed that no one touched on the subject of The Sunday Law being close to passing. What are your views on this subject? When will it happen, and what does this mean for Adventists'?

I ithink this is a welcome development particularly at this time of 'religion heresy'. Elder Ted Wilson has taken a step of faith devoid of denomination difference and criticism. I also believe this will open unexplainable doors of opportunities for the church to evangelise China and win her for Christ.'The gospel of Christ will be preached to all the end of the earth, then the end shall come..'
May the Lord bless your effort as you lead His church for the next five years. Amen

Before Jesus left, He said we are the Light and Salt of the World. I believe salt can not taste outside the food substance, as well as light is useful only when its near the people so much that it can help them to see using it. The unique light of the Adventist Faith and the Salt of our Bible based doctrines, will not impact the world until when we the Adventists will deliberately but cautiously and guided by divine wisdom, accept to reach out and relate with people of different Denominations and Faith and help them to know who we are, what we believe and why we are different. Jesus died for all world including our Chinese brethren (Isaiah 60:1,2 Jn 3:16). Lets send the light of the Gospel encompased in the three Angels mesages, and Present Truth to them too, b4 Jesus comes.. Amen

It is a very good thing that the General Conference to maintain relations fair, courteous and fraternal organizations with Protestants. Too many prejudices exist on both sides. As Seventh-day Adventists, we can not afford to maintain a constant apprehension against others on the Sabbath. Understand that this is not one thing, the Sabbath, to save us but Jesus Christ. However, we do not have a monopoly on understanding and conveying the message of Jesus Christ.

"Seventh-day Adventists are now to stand forth separate and distinct, a people denominated by the Lord as His own. Until they do this, He cannot be glorified in them. Truth and error cannot stand in copartnership. Let us now place ourselves where God has said that we should stand.... We are to strive for unity but not on the low level of conformity to worldly policy and union with the popular churches.- E.G. White, Lt 113, 1903.

I'm surprised China was so quick to pull the plug on the Da Vinci Code. Shows the influence of the Jesuits there. Certainly no harm in Adventists having some influence and the more the better. Sabbath keeping after all was a part of Chinese history. The Taipings kept it until they were crushed by the opium dealing Manchus with the help of the British.

Babylon has already entered the church.Adventist Church in China is a mockery of the world-wide Adventist Church.I have lived in China for the past three years and it wasnt till my third year that I was able to attend an Adventist Church after years of frantic efforts.Everything is done in secrecy here.Location of churches is a closely guided state secret. It's impossible for you to find church addresses on the streets or web in China. To the best of my knowledge the Adventist Church in China has no official website.Church buildings are owned by the government;no adventist sign on the building. In fact same building is used by Sunday worshippers.Whatever is said in the church is closely monitored.Members have little or no input to the church's service.
Jan Paulsen did a great job as our world-church president but while he turned a blind eye to the poor state of our church in China still confounds me.He visited China more than once but never addressed the issue. It's a shame that we compromised in China. The Bible says that we should stand and be seperate and that light has no connection with darkness. What has the church got to do with Three-Self Patriotic Movement? This is an arm of Chinese communist government used to persecute christains who fail to do the biddings of the government;those who would obey God rather than man. Some churches who refused to succumb to the ungodly dictates of the government operate the so-called underground churches. They are being hoarded and prosecuted yet they're not dettered because of the Blessed Hope. It's ironic it's our church who rather compromised. The government appoints and ordains whoever they want ,mostly women, pastors. Why the Salt of the earth has lost lost its taste in China still baffles me.I pray that the General Conference would address the issue.God be with His church.

This should be viewed as a welcoming opportunity for the president to accept this invitation to China. GC president Ted Wilson appears to be (from his speech), a fully grounded christian in his faith and his commitment to serving Christ as a Seventh-Day Adventist. Therefore, a friendly visit with the christians of China should not be viewed as "babylon entering the church". It should be viewed as an opportunity for our church to "go forward" in reaching the "labourers of the last hour" as described in the parable found in Matthew 20:1-14 for Jesus Christ, through His saving grace in these final days of the christian journey on this earth.
Let us pray that this visit to China will emphasize the work that Jesus did while He was on earth: breaking barriers that separated people (Jews, Samaritans, ect) in order to bring them to salvation.
I agree with the comment that: "it is not the Sabbath that is going to save people, but a full commitment to Christ". Once a person is filled with the spirit of Christ, than it is only natural that he/she will want to observe the Sabbath.
How are we supposed to reach out and win them for Christ, if we remain secluded in our thinking that every friendly gesture towards people of other faith is: "reaching out to babylon"?

While we have a solemn obligation to take our God's given message to the world we have to maintain by His grace our unique position as the remnant of his seed. Having that in mind it's hard to see from the Biblical point of view how we can achieve this objective by identifying ourselves as a movement with the 21st sanctuary Protestantism. As a generation we have been exposed continually to the politics through mass media to the point where we have started believing that hardly anything can be accomplished without it even the preaching of the Three Angels' Messages. It's high time to conduct a thorough performance evaluation of the politics as a method of proclaiming the message. The results might be worse than expected. Do we have enough courage to face the hard facts of life or we would rather like to continue to be seen as acting stars on the stage of the world politics? May God help us!

Thank you brother for this quotation right from God's revelation. We have fallen in love with self so much so that we do not see our true condition as God sees it. It seems all we care is how the world sees us. May God be merciful to us. The word of God is mighty and powerful to change our characters to the image of God which is Jesus Christ himself. Politics is powerless and a synonym for hypocrisy. The more hypocritical we get the more we trust in politics.

Christ is dealing with individuals for purpose of their salvation. He is not knocking at the door of the World Organizations but at the door of the individual hearts. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man (singular) hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. No round table conferences no compromising.

“What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty” (2 Cor. 6:14:18).
Are seventh-day Adventists playing a clear trumpet sound? Or are we playing the Babylonian tune? Stop mixing truth with falsity; protestants are not “lifting up Christ”, as President Wilson claims: they are in fact in the opposite side as Christ; they fight God’s law and truth. Every sincere member of protestant churches will have a decision to make. We Adventists are meant to give them the third angel’s message, but instead we are telling them they are all ok because they are allegedly “lifting up Christ”. This is open apostasy!

Giovanni, the Adventist Church is a Protestant denomination.
My brothers and sisters I love you all very much, let us not use the Sacred word to support our selfish opinion and try to make them doctrine. Jesus Christ in His ministry on this earth sets us an example, He walked, talked and eat with sinners. He says he came not for the righteous but sinners. We so soon forget that Christ came into "Babylon" and plucked us out. Do not limit the power of God, to keep us. He has admonished us to be in the world but not of the world. He commissioned us to 'go into ALL the world...'not SOME of the world. The work has to be finished, all must here the gospel. I am tired of being in this wretched world, I want to go home. We must have faith to believe that God is leading His church, can and will take care of His church. The Holy Spirit chose our leaders let us pray that God will direct there every thought and action.

@#Orlando,china I can see your point I was living in china in 1990-1995 and yes there were a lot of secrecy of those who were christian believers but there is a great distinction bet the christian and the non christian, in deed the christian are more humble and polite than the rest of the citizens but lets not judge the country because of its communism history, people are changing, its great that china is searching for real sanctuary for salvation hope the conference goes well in favor of Seventh-Day Adventist and God Bless us all

Sorry, Mrs. Elizabeth Lechleitner, but Seventh day adventists were inf fact expelled from protestant denominations in XIX century. That most seventh-day adventist come from a protestant extraction does'nt mean that this is a protestant denomination. Thinking this way leads us to conclude thar protestants are indeed catholic denominations! Does it make any sense?
