United States: ADRA Receives Highest Rating by Leading Charity Evaluator ... The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International has received for the second consecutive year the coveted four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities.

"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization excels as compared to other charities in America, in successfully managing the finances of your organization in an efficient and effective manner," said Aziza Musa, program analyst for Charity Navigator. "This consistency in your rating is an exceptional feat, especially given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year," Musa finished. An independent nonprofit organization, Charity Navigator [www.charitynavigator.org] provides the public with the most accurate and reliable information regarding America's largest charities. Every year, they evaluate more than 5,000 charitable organizations to ensure that donations given are being used judiciously. [ADRA/ANN Staff]

Mozambique: First of 1000 Maranatha Churches Dedicated ... On February 24 the Campuane Seventh-day Adventist church became the first of 1000 Maranatha Volunteers International churches to be dedicated in Mozambique. A large group of Maranatha volunteers and friends gathered at the house in Campuane where this fairly new church plant of 20 members first began meeting a few years ago, then walked across town to their new church property. At the church site a brand new church building awaited them, metal roof shining in the morning sun and blue bows tied across the front door. Gilberto Araujo, vice president for the Adventist church in the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean region, spoke passionately, congratulating the congregation, speaking of God's leading in this process and encouraging the church members to spread God's love to their community. Pastor Araujo said he believes that the self-esteem and confidence of the members and pastors all over Mozambique will change "as they move from temporary structures or tree shade to new church buildings." Bahrain: First Camp Meeting in Northern Gulf ... The majority Muslim country of Bahrain was the venue for the very first camp meeting in the Seventh-day Adventist Church's Northern Gulf Region. Adventist expatriates working in Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia joined the members in Bahrain at the Oriental Palace Hotel from Feb. 22 to 24 for a time of spiritual reflection and fellowship. Also attending the gathering was Dr. Kjell Aune, president of the Adventist Church in the Middle East, and his wife, Marianne, who serves as the family ministries director. Pastor Aune spoke about the Christian's relationship to God and the truth, suggesting that God desires friendship and a heart for worship, not just obedience based on fear. Egypt: New Pathfinder Clubs to Launch in Middle East ... After attending a weeklong training seminar arranged by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Middle East Feb. 18 to 22, some 50 youth leaders and pastors are equipped to launch more than a dozen new Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs in the region. The clubs are one way the Adventist church provides a social and spiritual outlet for young people through a variety of activities and outreach projects. Key to the formation of new clubs in the Middle East and "the only way [to] guarantee [their] long-term success" was the adaptation and translation of the Pathfinder and Adventurer curriculum and awards into Arabic, said regional youth director Amir Ghali. "The leaders are enthusiastic about having the material in their own language and we look forward to seeing clubs formed and children enjoying the programs," said Paul Tompkins, youth director for the church's Trans-European region. The Pathfinder training seminar was the first of its kind held in Cairo, Egypt.
