A longtime associate editor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's flagship magazine was among those recognized last week for service in communicating the church's mission and message.

Roy Adams, who until his recent retirement served as associate editor for the Adventist Review and Adventist World magazines, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Adventist Communicators (SAC), meeting in Rochester, New York October 14 to 16.

Adams, who served in the position since 1988, was also recognized for his contributions as a book author and his roles in education and church leadership.

SAC also presented the newsroom of the 59th General Conference Session with the Reger Smith Jr. Cutting Edge Award. The newsroom team, let by then world church Communication department Director Rajmund Dabrowski, was noted for "lasting coverage" of Session news and "solid operation." The award recognizes Adventist NewsLine, a daily news program during Session produced by communication department Director Williams Costa Jr., Atlanta 2010 Today podcasts, the Session public relations campaign, national media relations, the daily Session newsletter and coverage by Adventist News Network.

Dabrowski was also a recipient of a SAC President's Award of Appreciation for launching a "legacy of innovation in communication strategy" and encouraging church communicators to "stretch beyond the status quo."

Fred Kinsey, former Communication department director for the Adventist Church in North America, was also presented a President's Award of Appreciation. Kinsey was recognized for his impact on students and "continued dedication" to furthering the church's mission.

Hope Channel television producer Frenita Buddy was awarded this year's SAC Young Professional Award for her accomplishments in radio, television and her "ongoing volunteerism and mentoring." The recognition also notes Buddy's work in producing three award-winning shows for the church's television network.

Receiving the SAC Student Award was Rainey H. Park, author of Love, Kirsten, a true account of student missionary Kirsten Wolcott, who was killed while serving on the Micronesian island of Yap in 2009. Park and Wolcott were classmates at church-run Southern Adventist University, from which Park will graduate in December.
