Thirty-four missionaries from the Northern Asia Pacific Division (NSD) of the Seventh-day Adventist world church took to the internet recently for a prayer meeting with division officials. Part of the Pioneer Missionary Movement (PMM), an outreach to unentered areas, the missionaries were unable to gather in person due to the global pandemic.
The NSD Adventist Mission department planned for a special prayer meeting for the PMM missionaries using the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Social distancing requirements keep Adventist members from getting together in a church building for worship. Many churches are having online worship services because of this situation. The Zoom meeting for PMM participants grew out of the online worship service trend.
The thirty-four PMM pastors and 17 NSD officers, directors, and working staff joined the prayer meeting, held on the evening of April 13.
Representative pastors reported on the mission projects they are engaged in and the difficulty of their current situation. PMM pastors introduced various mission projects and activities and shared how COVID-19 is affecting people’s lives. Most PMM pastors are taking care of members and teaching the Bible to seekers through SMS and online because many places are locked down.
Division officers and directors prayed for each missionary following their report, and expressed concern for the workers and their families. Pastor Lee Jichoon, Korean Union Conference ministerial secretary, joined this prayer meeting encouraged the PMM pastors. NSD president Kim SiYoung also shared the word of God with the PMM team, and prayed for the safety and faithful service as God’s servants of the missionaries. Many PMM pastors, in turn, expressed great thanks to the division leadership for their concern and prayers.
