A recent alum of Andrews University was selected as 1 of 7 finalists for the 2017 Student Academy Awards.
Nina Vallado's film "Sisterly" was chosen out of more than 1,600 documentary entries. The Student Academy Awards were established to support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level.
Vallado graduated magna cum laude from Andrews University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in documentary film this past May. The short documentary was initially created for her senior project. "Sisterly," tells the story of Vallado's relationship with her sister, Lisa, who is on the autism spectrum.
Vallado said, "we just found things we could do together -- things Lisa loved, like puzzles and Memory, and everything Disney. Sisterhood can be complicated, messy or broken, but it's still sisterhood."
Sisterly is currently showing at private screenings for Film Festivals. Visit Facebook.com/sisterlyfilm to stay up to date on news about the film and when it will be released to the public. [photo: Nina Vallado]
