Government representatives, a police commissioner and leaders of the Adventist Church in Vanuatu celebrated the groundbreaking of a women's shelter on November 14. The site of the "El Haven" shelter is located outside the city of Port Vila. It was the dream of a local pastor, Dorolyn Laloye, to build a safe space for young mothers, and unwanted and abandoned babies.
Funding for the shelter's construction has been provided by Adventist members in Australia and New Zealand. Sheds and septic tanks for the shelter are already on site.
The former president of the Adventist Church's mission in Vanuatu also participated in the groundbreaking. John Leeman said, "This is God's project to save many infant lives and our prayer is that this home will be a beacon of light to many people." [photo: John Leeman]
