Discipleship model sees mass baptism in Madang Manus Mission

Farming-cycle discipleship model has seen 142 baptized and 300 ready for baptism.

The farming-cycle discipleship model is “reaping results” in Madang Manus Mission (Papua New Guinea), according to Mission president Garry Laukei.

A successful evangelism series during late April and early May has seen 142 baptized and 300 standing for baptism in the future. The South Pacific Division provided funds for the series, with Tasmanian Conference president and Institute of Public Evangelism (IPE) director, Gary Webster, conducting the three-week campaign.

More than 5000 people attended each night. “Although we experienced a couple of nights of rain, we were able to complete the series, ending in a high note,” shared Laukei.

The MMM plans to nurture the 300 who made their stand and Pastor Webster will return in September for another week of meetings for the “harvest” program.

“Madang Manus Mission is experiencing growth in terms of membership,” said Laukei. “It seems we will change our plans for the next six months and do a lot of visitation, Bible study, conduct seminars and small groups so that we [can] nurture our interests who have surrendered their lives to Jesus. We do not want to lose these precious souls.”

Laukei thanked the SPD for its support with funding and planning for discipleship and for sponsoring the IPE training conducted by Pastor Webster.

Earlier this year, MMM ran discipleship and Bible reading training with author and church planter, Peter Roennfeldt.
