World Water Day, established by the United Nations (UN) in 1992, is recognized every year on March 22nd. Students from the Itaboraí Adventist College in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took to the streets to promote awareness of water conservation.

Throughout the week, they studied the relationship between humans and water by talking about issues such as conservation and protection of water, the importance of water for health, the correct development of water related resources and measures to solve water pollution.

Early in the morning, a group of students arrived at 7am with a delivery of water glasses for the parents of students. At 8:30am, another group of 30 students went  to the Costa Azul Market to distribute water and information to people who passed by. Three booths were setup with information related to water and health.

"In addition to encouraging water preservation, we want to remind people of the benefits it brings us, and to strengthen that we cannot live without it. It is necessary to preserve this magnificent resource, "explained the school coordinator, Elisângela Rocha.

At 10:30 am, in the amphitheater of the school, there was a program with songs, poetry and educational pieces on water, which were created and presented by the students themselves. Students shared, in practical ways, what measures society can take to contribute to the preservation of water, ways of storing and reusing rainwater, methods of prevention of pollution, and much more.
